toshio's review:

Cheap, decent drinks and beer + decent bar food + darkness = a good overall experience, if you can handle the smoke. There are a couple accessible bathrooms (both unisex, I believe). Despite the fact that there are smoking and nonsmoking areas, you'll probably come out smelling like Parliament Lights when you leave.

If I were a vampire or say, the protagonist in the movie, "Powder," and I happened to be in PDX, Dot's would be the first place I'd go. This is the darkest place you will ever spend time in. Last time I was there my friend had to guide me to the table because I couldn't see a foot in front of me. It was 5 in the afternoon. I will admit that Dot's was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Portland and I hated it instantly. The overwhelming kitsch factor (velvet paintings of big-eyed kids, various garage sale crap on the walls) irritated me. A lot. However, I've since calmed down my rage and can say there are some great things about this place. The food is vegetarian-friendly and surprisingly good (my friend traveled all the way from the East Coast to snack on their cheese fries). They have cheap beer, a full bar, pool tables, spacious wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and perhaps most impressive: you might get to hear Prince and Sheena Easton duetting over the stereo as I got to last time.
